Laura’s Story
At school, my confidence in Maths would vary - A LOT!
I've been the student with the top marks and I've been the student who felt awful as I didn't have a clue and everyone else seemed to 'get it'.

Overcoming my struggles and wanting to help others is why I became a teacher. And it completely shapes how I teach.

My goal is to simplify Maths, tackle gaps in understanding, boost confidence and help my students to build a problem-solving mindset that lasts a lifetime.

Previous Experience
As a former Head of Maths and Head of Year at leading local Independent Schools, and a mum of three wonderful (and very busy!) boys, I bring a wealth of experience in helping students achieve their full potential.

After many years in full-time teaching, I wanted to create more space to focus on individual student success—and in January, I took the exciting step of launching The Surrey Maths Coach.

The Hybrid Option:
One to One and then Group Lessons when your child feels ready.

Classes tend to start as One to One sessions, which help us to get to know each other, build rapport and confidence.
Then students are offered to join Group classes, (a more cost effective option longer term and still with a 1-to-1 Focus).

Personalised Approach
By already knowing my students well, and making sure each child feels comfortable, and giving lots of different ways for students to give feedback, (from a simple 'thumbs up' to a quick, private feedback form), I can adapt lessons to suit each student’s individual needs.

Unlimited Learning
Students can attend up to 2 classes per week. All classes are recorded, so if they can't make one, they can always catch up and access these anytime.

How
Classes Work
My online classes let students learn from home. No boring Zoom lectures – this is an immersive class where students complete exam questions and hone their understanding and skills. It’s active, effective learning.

We’ll meet to get to know each other; discuss your child’s needs, their learning goals, current level in maths, the areas they’d like to improve on, and any upcoming exams. I will also check which Exam Board they are working on- or help them to find out if they are unsure of which one.
From there, I can make sure the relevant topics and questions are covered for your child.

I focus on explanation, “my turn, their turn”, practice and low stakes testing. Not lecturing. More practice, less talk. With live results, I can pinpoint where your child struggles and gives extra attention where it’s needed.
Practice Makes Perfect

In my live classes, its just your child and me, the teacher – no distractions, no judgement. Your child can ask questions freely and I monitor their progress closely. I ensure they are supported right through the class.
1-1 Style Class

Every Friday, you will get a text with your students results, and results of their Homework. It’s important that you are kept in the loop and can see their progress each week.
I will always set homework each week to give opportunities to consolidate what we have learnt but it is optional, (to be agreed by you and your child). As a Mum, I understand how busy our children are with sports, clubs etc.
